Blencowe Families’ Association Newsletter Vol. 24 No. 1 February 2009

Letter from the Editor

Dear Cousins,

Welcome to 2009. What with extremes in weather, changes in our economic, fiscal and political environments one wonders what this year will bring.

The Queensland Family History Society Inc, appealed for people who had ancestors living in Queensland before Separation day, 10 December 1859 to submit their stories of their pre-separation families for publication in a book named Queensland Founding Families: Biographies of Families who resided in Queensland before separation from New South Wales. The launch will coincide with the 150th Anniversary of the separation of Queensland from the Colony of New South Wales.

Helen-Mary Blake has taken up this challenge and we are privileged to include her entry as our first article. In consultation with her cousins, Helen-Mary has put together a well researched and interesting biography of her Blinco ancestors.

The February issue has always been difficult to fill so thank you for the big effort to send in articles. I even have some left over! We do need a new batch for the May edition so keep writing as we like to have articles ‘on hand’.
